Best Meal Ever

Yesterday was a big day for Benji and I, we got to see our baby for the first time. Our first ultrasound was an amazing experience that we will not soon forget.

I’m taking a week long intensive class this week that meets Monday thru Friday 8-5.(which I’m actually sitting in right now typing a blog) I left class at 9am on Tuesday to head over to the doctor’s office. On the way I had to drink 16 oz of water so that my bladder would be full for the ultrasound. Apparently a full bladder helps push up the uterus so that the baby is easier to see. I had already had some water during class, so by the time I got to the office I was ready to pop.

The purpose of the ultrasound was for an integrated screening test. The ultrasound technician had to measure the fold of the skin on the back of the baby’s neck, but the baby had to be turned a certain way for her to get an accurate measurement. Well our little peanut was rolled over on her stomach so we got the enjoyment of watching her/him moving around as the tech. tried to get her/him to turn over.

What we saw was simply amazing. At twelve weeks, (well 11 and ½) our baby was reaching up and touching her/his face, and kicking his/ her little legs! I was so amazed that something so small would actually already act like a tiny human.

It is a little freaky to think about the fact that such a tiny creature is just hanging out inside my body. I kind of feel like there is an alien growing inside me. I told Benji after we left the doctor, “no wonder I’ve been sick!” I’ve got something growing inside my belly! Just thinking about it makes me tired…….

The next time we have an ultrasound will be when we find out if peanut is a boy or a girl.

I’m slowly beginning to feel better. I still have some bad days. Sunday night of this week I had to stay up pretty late to finish 3 papers that were due Monday morning at 8 a.m. for the class I’m taking. I got up really early to finish up some last minute issues with my papers and to get ready for class, needless to say I didn’t feel that great for the rest of the day.

I’ve finally been feeling more hungry than nauseous, which is much more fun. I am beginning to enjoy the feeling of being really hungry, then eating a nice meal and feeling like I’ve just eaten the best meal ever.

I’ve also been sleeping better since we heard the heartbeat, and had the first ultrasound. The anxiety of the first few weeks is passing and I am beginning to rest in the fact that God is in control of this little life, I am not.

Congrats on the first ultrasound! Next time if you find out that it is a boy, you ought to consider the name George. I hear thats what all the cool kids are named these days.

George Brett (old baseball player)
George Herman (Babe) Ruth
George Washington
George Castanza

the list goes on.
