So I'm really tired. But I wanted to blog some things that have been happening this week....we'll see how this goes.
People are starting to stare at my belly. You really can't tell yet (when I have clothes on) that I'm pregnant. But it is funny to watch people's eyes move automatically to my belly....It's actually kind of annoying after awhile, but I know It only aggravates me after being at work for eight hours.....
I cleaned out my closet this week of all the clothes I wont be able to wear for the next year and half...or ever again....
I bought my first few maternity clothes and I might not ever wear regular jeans again. They are so stinkin comfortable.
Vance is feeling alot better thanks to his new kangaroo and oats dog food at 17 dollars per 5lb bag. 5lbs is not alot of dog food.
I've still got two papers to write for the class I took last week. Then I will start my online work for Hebrew syntax. Classes start next week but I don't really feel like I'm in school any more since I won't be on campus.
Me not being on campus should save us about $100 in gas a month though, which is good.
I have realized that if I eat every three hours I feel great. No wonder girls gain weight pregnant....I eat like six times a day.
I'm tired. still really tired. I can sleep for 12 hours and not even think about it, and then sleep 12 hours again the next night.
guess that's about it. It is really cold here in the ville and I'm about ready for summer.

R.I.P- May 2003-January 2008
If any of you know me well you know that I wear two different pairs of shoes. (not counting my boring work shoes.)
I wear flip flops in the summer, specifically Rainbows, and from about October to March I wear my faithful Uggs. Regardless of your personal opinion on the fashion status of Uggs, if you’ve ever put on a pair you understand the loyalty that I have to them. They are the perfect pair of winter shoes. You don’t wear socks with them, so they are all warm and fuzzy against your toes, even in the snow your feet stay nice and toasty.
This week was a sad week for me as I realized that my BFF Uggs had seen their last days. I first purchased my pair of Uggs during our first trip to Louisville. We visited the campus, looked at apartments, and found the surrounding malls. Upon walking into the Von Maur (a store similar to Nordstroms) I fell in love at first sight. Now I’m not one to believe in love at first sight, unless it pertains to puppies or to shoes.
This one such moment was similar to the first time I ever saw my baby Vance. I saw that pair of Uggs and knew I was not leaving Louisville without them. This was before the Ugg craze hit America, at this point they were still only sold in places were the weather was conducive to wool lined boots. I purchased a pair, took them back to South Carolina, (where we lived at the time) and they sat on the shelf until we moved to Louisville that August.
Since that fall I have rarely worn another pair of shoes from Fall to Spring. My Uggs have seen me through seven semesters of Southern Seminary. They have traveled to places some could only dream of visiting. Alas, this week I realized that they had taken their last steps…..
Maybe it’s because I’m getting old, maybe out of shape, or perhaps because I’m pregnant and my joints are doing crazy things….but now when I wear my beloved Uggs my hip feels like it has a power drill pulsating into it.
I’ve heard that shoes have a “running” life of about six months to a year until the support wears out. Well my BFF have been working overtime for four years.
So if you think about me today save a moment of silence for my beloved BFF Uggs.

Best Meal Ever
Yesterday was a big day for Benji and I, we got to see our baby for the first time. Our first ultrasound was an amazing experience that we will not soon forget.
I’m taking a week long intensive class this week that meets Monday thru Friday 8-5.(which I’m actually sitting in right now typing a blog) I left class at 9am on Tuesday to head over to the doctor’s office. On the way I had to drink 16 oz of water so that my bladder would be full for the ultrasound. Apparently a full bladder helps push up the uterus so that the baby is easier to see. I had already had some water during class, so by the time I got to the office I was ready to pop.
The purpose of the ultrasound was for an integrated screening test. The ultrasound technician had to measure the fold of the skin on the back of the baby’s neck, but the baby had to be turned a certain way for her to get an accurate measurement. Well our little peanut was rolled over on her stomach so we got the enjoyment of watching her/him moving around as the tech. tried to get her/him to turn over.
What we saw was simply amazing. At twelve weeks, (well 11 and ½) our baby was reaching up and touching her/his face, and kicking his/ her little legs! I was so amazed that something so small would actually already act like a tiny human.
It is a little freaky to think about the fact that such a tiny creature is just hanging out inside my body. I kind of feel like there is an alien growing inside me. I told Benji after we left the doctor, “no wonder I’ve been sick!” I’ve got something growing inside my belly! Just thinking about it makes me tired…….
The next time we have an ultrasound will be when we find out if peanut is a boy or a girl.
I’m slowly beginning to feel better. I still have some bad days. Sunday night of this week I had to stay up pretty late to finish 3 papers that were due Monday morning at 8 a.m. for the class I’m taking. I got up really early to finish up some last minute issues with my papers and to get ready for class, needless to say I didn’t feel that great for the rest of the day.
I’ve finally been feeling more hungry than nauseous, which is much more fun. I am beginning to enjoy the feeling of being really hungry, then eating a nice meal and feeling like I’ve just eaten the best meal ever.
I’ve also been sleeping better since we heard the heartbeat, and had the first ultrasound. The anxiety of the first few weeks is passing and I am beginning to rest in the fact that God is in control of this little life, I am not.

Our first child

So someone else also went to the doctor this week, our first child Vance. Vance needed to get his annual shots, and he had this funny rash thing on his back, and he wouldnt quit licking his behind, so I finally took him to the vet. We found out (300 dollars later) that our poor Vancer has some kind of allergy. This allergy has left a nasty rash all over his back and on the back of his legs, under his tail. The vet had to shave all the areas that were infected. Our poor baby looks like he had a saddle shaved into his back and that he looks like he has a baboon butt!
He also has to switch his food to this special kangaroo and oat dog food. Vance has been eating the same food for 5 years so this is going to be a challenge. No more dog treats either. Vance will get carrots for treats. I mean who wants carrots for treats? He feels fine, but he looks pitiful and he doesnt understand why he doesnt get his favorite dog bones anymore. He is on three medications for his rash that already looks 90% better.
Lovin a white fluffy fur ball, with just a little less fur,
Kristi
10,11 whatever

(This image is of an 11 week old baby.) Finally! today we got to hear the heartbeat of our baby! It was a very exciting, nervous time. My appointment was at 7:45am so we were tired, (and I of course was hungry) when we got there. I went back first and peed in a cup again. Im assuming that this will become a ritual every time I go to the doctor. Maybe they are making sure Im still pregnant? Maybe they are making sure Im not on crack? Who knows! Anyway they weighed me as well, which is also going to take getting used to. I have been programed since pre-teens to want the number on the scale to go DOWN and it is going to be steadily going up.
Then I went to get Benji and bring him back to the exam room. Our doctor was a cute, tiny, young woman who I will see again in 4 weeks. I really liked her and she comforted my anxiety. I had my unfortunate "woman exam" first which I learned is going to happen again in 3 months. I guess having people look around down there is something else Im going to have to get used to. along with peeing in the cup and weight going UP!
Then she put that little machine on my belly and we heard it! It was really fast and really loud. We only heard one, Benji's dad has been saying all along that we were having a 'Max and a Maxine."
We also learned that they are saying that I am actually 10 weeks and 5 days. We had calcutated that I was 11 weeks and 5 days. We will get a more accurate timeline once we have our first ultrasound. Trust me there isnt that much room for error, because it didnt take us long at all to "get" pregnant.
As for me, Ive been feeling like Ive been hit by a truck. I am so thankful that I had the entire winter break to be nauseous and tired and grumpy and forgetful. Starting about week 6 until about well now (Im still not 100%) I have been basically nauseous all day every day. The night time is definately the worst. and the mornings that I have to be at work at 5 am are pretty unpleasant as well. Just the idea of steak makes me turn green. Salad, no way, Chicken I can handle sometimes. Dont get near me with a hamburger, eggs blah! Anything fried (besides french fries) yucky. Funny thing, the idea of crakers makes me want to run in the other direction. Some things I can eat are: macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, potato chips, french fries, pasta, chicken noodle soup, cottage cheese, orange juice, fruit, lemodade makes me smile, and cheese danishes!
All things white I say, just give me all things white.
Okay so I guess thats enough for now. An exciting day I tell ya. I think I also decided today to take my last seminary class online next semester. I only have Hebrew syntax left. Benji is taking it online so we could watch our lessons together, and I wouldnt have to drive up to school twice a week for just one class. Im kind of sad about not being on campus next semester, but I think that the pros will out weigh the cons. I also will be able to make my Dr. apt. so that Benji can go with me.
Excited and thankful,
Kristi (and vicariously Benji)
