My Old Kentucky Home

Every year when derby weekend rolls around I thank God I got to experience life in Kentucky...if even for only 4 years.

Those were some of the best years of my life.

So here's to Louisville! Happy Derby weekend everyone!

~My Old Kentucky Home~
The sun shines bright in the old Kentucky home,
'Tis summer, the people are gay;
The corn-top's ripe and the meadow's in the bloom,
While the birds make music all the day.

The young folks roll on the little cabin floor,
All merry, all happy and bright;
By 'n' by Hard Times comes a-knocking at the door,
Then my old Kentucky home, goodnight.

CHORUS
Weep no more my lady
Oh! weep no more today!
We will sing one song for the old Kentucky home,
For the Old Kentucky Home far away.

They hunt no more for the possum and the coon,
On meadow, the hill and the shore,
They sing no more by the glimmer of the moon,
On the bench by the old cabin door.

The day goes by like a shadow o'er the heart,
With sorrow, where all was delight,
The time has come when the people have to part,
Then my old Kentucky home, goodnight.

CHORUS

The head must bow and the back will have to bend,
Wherever the people may go;
A few more days, and the trouble all will end,
In the field where the sugar-canes grow;

A few more days for to tote the weary load,
No matter, 'twill never be light;
A few more days till we totter on the road,
Then my old Kentucky home, goodnight.

Celebrate

I don't even know where to start with all I want to say.....

This week has brought so much tragedy and heart break. Tuesday afternoon, a family that is very dear to me suffered unthinkable loss.

Today is Leigh's birthday. She was murdered Tuesday. Just a few weeks after giving birth to a beautiful daughter.

This post is strictly to honor her memory. Her precious family that she had just started....please pray for her husband, her sister, her mom, dad and most importantly her baby, Haley.

Happy Birthday Leigh Leigh. You will never be forgotten.

A Woman's Choice

I have decided I am over my weight issues.

I am going to love myself, come what may.

I am going to exercise regularly.

Eat healthy, make good choices every day.

When I mess up, I will forgive myself. I will forget it and move on.

I will love my body and who I am. For me....

And for HER....... I am making this choice FOR HER.

I want to live by example. I want her to love her body as it is.

I will set a good example for HER.

Thanks For The Gas

Well, have you ever thought about how weird it is to buy a used house.

You know, like a house that's not new, that someone has previously lived in. It's kind of weird.

I stinkin LOVE our house. I love our location, our back yard, it's curbside appeal. If we only had one extra bedroom we'd probably stay here forever.

But we bought our home from an old, old lady. Her husband had recently died, and it kind of creeps me out late at night when I can't sleep, and I keep thinking about how maybe that old man died in the very room I'm sleeping in......

Any way, we recently found a new, never used propane tank, the kind for gas grills. We found it in our back yard inside of an old trash can they left. It still had the blue seal, never been used. So when we ran out of gas recently we just hooked it up and it worked perfectly.

It makes me kind of sad to think of all the life that old couple had left to live when the man passed away. They still had a tank of gas ready for the summer of grilling.

I wish I could tell that old man now that we are here. Loving every part of this house. Taking care of this house.

That we are living. Really living each day to the fullest, in this house.

That Emery loves the back yard. She would stay out all day if I let her.

I wish I could tell him thanks for the gas tank.

We found it, and we are putting it to good use.

Fresh Dirt

Is it bad that I'm a pastor's wife who just recently found my addiction to the smell of Patchouli?

I know I'm a little behind the times. But it is my new favorite scent. It makes me feel clean. I know it smells like dirt....but it makes me "feel" clean.

Remind Me

Remind me next time I start blog surfing at 11pm at night, to not.

Somehow I manage to find every blog of every mother who's ever lost a child, every blog about rare diseases ravishing small babies.

And then, then I can not sleep.

I remember when I was pregnant with Emery the first advice, and best advice I got from my Dr's was to "STAY OFF THE INTERNET!"..... of course I didn't listen to them.

Of course my heart aches for these people, I am not diminishing their trauma in any way. My family has had it's own share of unthinkable loss.

Which is why I shouldn't surf the web.

So next time remind me.
